Petition update - Roundtable discussion: Call for empowerment of AJK's democratic institutions

MIRPUR: Participants at a roundtable discussion on Monday called for a transparent and a more effective autonomous democratic system of governance in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

Stressing the need for slashing the executive powers enjoyed by the AJK Council under the 1974 act, speakers during the day-long roundtable demanded that an amendment bill be presented before the AJK Legislative Assembly to empower the local government and ensure socio-economic development.

Mirpur, September 9, Over 25 lawyers of the district bar association Mirpur have signed an e-petition calling for the empowerment of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) through constitutional reforms in the Act 1974. The petition has been launched by a non-governmental civil society organization working on the issues of the governance in Azad Kashmir since 2010.
