Empowerment of Business Community
Since its inception, Centre for Peace, Development and Reforms (CPDR) had decided to work with the business community and chambers of commerce and industry in Azad Jammu and Kashmir to generate fresh ideas and bridge the gap between business community and policy-makers in general. In this connection, CPDR decided to support nascent cross Line of Control trade, besides, providing consultancy to the Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) to organize events and meetings with the policy-makers in Islamabad and Muzaffarabad.

CPDR played a vital role in the triggering the debate around the cross LoC trade and travel through holding policy dialogue and bringing out publication. In February-March 2011, a book based on the discussion papers titled “Jammu and Kashmir: Trade across the Line of Control” was launched in Islamabad and Muzaffarabad. Available at: Click Here
The publication is based on discussion papers written by a group of traders, journalists and academics from both sides of Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. The study is considered as a first publication with gross root accounts of peacebuilding and economic benefits of cross-LoC trade.
The Jammu and Kashmir Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry has called upon the governments of India and Pakistan to promote trade across the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir by easing restrictions on travel, communication and meeting of traders, expanding the list of tradeable items, and setting up the necessary infrastructure to support the trade.
